Notes from the Cottage
Our friends George and Lucie have again graciously loaned us their cottage. This time, in peak season! It’s wonderful here. Very relaxing and beautiful. We’re a little disconcerted, as we are generally here in October or February, and the place is entirely deserted. It is odd to have other people in the cabins around us and on the beach. However, it is still wonderful to be here.
The lake is a perfect temperature for swimming, and the Marsden’s have things set up nicely. They have a shade tent down at the water, and comfy chairs to sit in. Here’s our beach set up:
You can see the cottage above the beach, and, very importantly, the kite that must be flying at all times for Jan’s enjoyment. Rather a nice way to spend the day.
What do we do on the beach? Read, of course.
Hey, you guys, wave!
How about some waves from in the waves?
Jan’s very favourite thing to do on the beach is to run with his truck. Wendy keeps setting up lines that he can’t pass, otherwise he’d be two kilometres down the beach before we could catch him. This makes for excellent naps.
The beach itself changes every year, of course. This year, the beach in front of the cottage is quite short, and the water seems very high. The winter was hard on the shoreline, as it wasn’t cold enough to build up the ice reefs that usually protect the sand. Consequently, a lot of the beaches here look like this:
The cottage next to the Marsdens’ is for sale. It breaks my heart that we can’t buy it. I would very much love to have a place here. This is such an amazing place to spend time, any time of year. The cottage in the middle (brown one):
It’s listed for a measly $315,000. Which, in this neighbourhood, really isn’t a bad price. Considering you can rent these places for about $2,000 per week during peak season, the cottage could, in the long run, be quite a money maker. Anyone want to buy into a cottage with us? 🙂
More later in the week.
