Caption Contest (and various other images)!

Who can come up with the best caption for this photo? Doesn’t my son look like he loves me at this particular moment?

Last night, our small group had a celebration for David Swartz. Yesterday he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation. He wrote about the Evangelical Left in American history, pretty fascinating topic. In any case, way to go, David, we’re all pretty proud of you.

Can I just mention that he did this while he and his wife (Lisa) had twins and then another boy (three boys under the age of three? and they’re both grad students? amazing people).

There were many other amazing people there too. Lots of kids seem to follow our group around these days.

We met at the Marsdens’ house (soon to be the Gabrielses’ house :):) ), and some got in the hot tub, though mostly we just dipped our feet in.

It was a good time, we ate lots of ice-cream (David Swartz’s fav food group) and had a good time together.  Joel added his general humour to the evening, of course.

But have a lookie here, at this hot mama. She stole the show.

How amazing does she look? Pretty darn amazing I’d say.

In house update news we are definitely on to a different stage – we’re painting! After getting everything filled and fixed and sanded and primed I put on a coat of ceiling paint in the foyer, living room, and dining room. They look pretty good, and I think the only one I have to give a second coat is the foyer. It is textured and it is 15 feet high. I used a long pole, it went fine, but it will need a second coat. It was also the dirtiest.

I have also painted the deep red in the dining room below the chair rail. That same red is also the base coat for our accent wall in the living room, and I have two coats on that wall also. So tomorrow I hope to finish with the red and the ceilings and do the darker colour that will be in the lower part of the foyer. That leaves only the light off-white which will be the same in all three rooms.

Progress! Our flooring should be here in about 2 weeks. I think, because I can install it floating, that I can get the living and dining room knocked out in a weekend. Then it is on to the demolition of our existing laundry/bath on the main floor and the family room in the back. Down to the studs, baby.

Thursday we head to the Twin Cities to see Wendy’s brother and his fam. Pray that Jan travels well. We’ll let you know.
