Gallery opening!
So it happened – the first art opening in the Gallery in the Atrium of the South Bend Christian Reformed Church (how’s that for a catchy title?). This event was fairly a “take-care-of-details-at-the-last-minute” sort of event, and I hate that. For that reason, I did took care of the details (curating) myself – hanging, light focusing, cleaning the glass on the paintings, food for the opening, promotion, etc. etc. etc. etc.. I didn’t do as much promotion as I would normally, and so the opening was pretty small.
Having said that, I was thrilled to see more than 40 people who are not from our church show up. That makes nearly 80 people this month who came to our church for a special event; this is why I want to run these events. It creates situations for non-church folks to come into the building; that’s the first step in making them feel welcome and getting them there on Sunday mornings. I’m booking art shows in April, May and June already now, the news spread very fast. I’m booking jazz concerts into August already. This is just a start, the sky is the limit.
So here is the rough draft for the website for the gallery. This is intended to be a tool to invite local artists to show their work. There will be a similarly designed brochure. Your feedback is very welcome.
