what we did today

Today was crazy.  I think we would have worked less if we had gone to work, but we got a lot of things done.  And that is all good.  But before I get to that, let me tell you about the week.

We had a very busy week which came after a very busy week.  Last week we were out every night at various things except Monday and Thursday nights plus we had a 2 service Sunday.  This week we were out every night except Monday but we don’t have 2 services tomorrow, thank God.  Nothing of too much note happened this week amidst all this work except David’s dad has gotten sicker and sicker.  This is not a good thing at all.

We got up this morning at the usual 7 something and actually watched a couple episodes of West Wing.  We love that show and are slowly working our way through the years via Netflix.  Then it was full steam ahead.  They (whoever “they” are) decided to pick up leaves today, which I didn’t know was coming.  So after cleaning the house, when I saw the leaf truck going down the other side of the road, I went out and sprinted around raking, sweeping, shoveling and mowing leaves.  I hardly made a dent, but the very front yard is mostly leaf free.  I just feel dispair when I look at the sides and back yards which are literally a foot deep in leaves.  Then I started in on my big project of the day although I didn’t know it would be big.  Here it is halfway through: punkin.jpg.  I took our Halloween pumpykin and cut it up, baked it, processed it and put it in ice cube trays for Jan’s meals.  I also boiled carrots and mashed them.  The carrots were easy.  The pumpkin took forever.  I had to do it in quarters because our ancient oven is so teeny.  It also doesn’t heat well so instead of the recipe’s 45 minutes, it took 1.5 hours for each set of quarters.  It sounds easy when I talk about it, but it took from 1 pm until 8.45.  Oh yes, and I also got the pumpykin seeds ready to roast tomorrow.  I have never tried them, but I hear they are tasty.  Plus I was on primary child care today because here is what David did today:  door001.jpg.  This is the back of the house by the kitchen door on the deck.  door002.jpgdoor003.jpg.Yes, that’s right, we now have another door there.  This is the entrance into our new laundry/mud room that I am all excited about.  And here is the inside of said room:construction1101.jpg. insulated.jpg.  The first one is looking through the family room wall into the new room and the second one is looking through the hall door into the new room which is all insulated.  David worked like a dog today and got so much done it is unbelievable.  Now we only have to do a few fiddly things, all the drywall and then we can put fixtures in.  wow!  Anyway, I’m so exhausted now, I absolutely must go to bed.  Tomorrow is fiddly things, finishing pumpykin and maybe even sitting a little bit more.  Thanks be to God for daylight savings, falling back!
