great visits, great family

We had a lovely visit from my brother Andy and my mum this past weekend.  It was nice to sit and talk, to take a walk, and just generally relax.  Jan received lots of attention too, and he approved.

Back to the grind this week.  Even though things are “all calm” at church, I have a concert on Thursday night with the Trinity school choir.  This has been the least motivated group I’ve ever had at the school, and consequently I’m less excited about the concert than I have been in the past.  However, we’re doing some really wonderful music – A Cantata (BWV 106) by J.S. Bach which has a unique scoring: same as a string quartet but replace the violins with flutes.  Two flutes, viola, two cellos.  pretty cool.  Additionally, we’re doing Cloudburst by Erik Whitacre.  If you don’t know the piece, check it out.

Dress rehearsal tomorrow afternoon, church choir tomorrow night, noon-time rearsals today, tomorrow, and the day after, Thursday night concert.  Oh, and get a service ready for Sunday.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t intend to be complaining, I’m just realising that life really doesn’t have a lot of “down” times, does it?

I did get a chance to do a first-sanding in the bathroom and another coat of plaster all over today.  I’m hoping to sand again on Friday afternoon, do some more plaster, and hope to sand/finish plastering on Saturday.  I’d like nothing more than to spend Monday priming the whole mess.  That’s the plan.

Coming soon – the blog post that shows Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday installations.  I’m starting to write it up now for it to be published in January in Reformed Worship.
