Spring and the many faces of Jan

It seems it is spring around here although that doesn’t mean it is warm.  It was fairly chilly in the shade and wind today, but pleasant in the sun.  We have big news:  we mowed the lawn today!! That may seem like nothing, but it is a big deal to us because it means that the grass has grown enough to mow!  Hooray!  Here are some photos of the lovely green:

I will also include a couple photos here of the flowerbeds I spent a lot of time weeding and tending today as well as a couple flowers that are in it.  We have columbines, dutchman’s breeches, and iris (not many) blooming right now, with many iris about to bloom including a yellow one I’m excited to see.

Here is a photo that I’m sure my mother will love of the men mowing:

dsc_0015.JPG Jan’s mower is a wee bit smaller, but only a wee bit less noisy.

Here is what else is going on around the house:

This is the before, during and after of the framing of the fireplace that will eventually cover over all the stone with slate tile.  There is more framing to do for those of you who know about these things.  This is a lot of progress, though, I think.  The opening is larger, as you can see, and there will be a mantle about where the 2×4 is in the final photo.  There will be wood “paneling” above the 2×4.  We will re-use the black slate hearth that you see in the first photo.  There is still a ways to go, but I have faith that David will move right along now that he has started.

As promised, here are the many faces of Jan.  I couldn’t decide which one, so I’m just sticking them all on.  Clearly you can bleep over the majority.

Also lots of reading going on here.  But that is enough from me for now.  Hope things are all well with you!!
