nothing going on

It’s true, there is nothing going on around here.  And soon, college football will be done and there will really be nothing going on around here.  Let’s see, today being a Saturday here’s what we did:

David:  Put 4 coats of sealer on the slate tile countertop of the bar.
Did not install the glass shelving since the glass people are so astonishingly slow to cut 2 pieces of glass which we could have cut if we had the glass.  sigh.
Chipped and dug and smashed and poked and scraped all the salt out of the water softener.  We have had a softener since we moved in, but it was full of baseballs.  Literally.  And then after he removed all those, he discovered the entire softener was packed solid with a block of salt.  That put a damper on the enthusiasm to try to use it until today.  It took a long time to chip all the salt out of there, but he thinks he may have fixed it.  He’s spending tonight reading up on how they work.
Spent 3 hours at work and then went grocery shopping.
Put a lock on the bedroom door in the basement so Jan and his little friends cannot put all the toys in the baby’s crib (who David watches on Mondays) which is apparently the cool thing to do when they are over.
Fiddled with some wiring.

Wendy (Me):  Did laundry.
Played and played and played with Jan.  Got very angry with him too.  Not a very stellar example of parenting.  We all have our moments.
Due to immanent soft water, scrubbed and scraped and wiped and chipped off all the hard water deposits off the tub by using a gallon (and a bit) of vinegar and a paint scraper (and some brillo and a sponge.) It was quite the ordeal.
Cleaned bathrooms within an inch of their lives.  Although I’m pretty sure an inch is about all the life the master bath has left.  It really is a somewhat foul room with nothing that can be done to improve it as it is.  Guess what the next major renovation project is.
Vacuumed and cleaned upstairs.
Read quite a few articles online about potty training.  Realised it’s been done all wrong.  Hence the non-stellar parenting.  Ah well, see above note.
Tried the tub out and did not turn into a pickle (Because of the previous vinegar).  Will call that a success.

Jan:              “Helped” me clean the bathrooms.
Peed on the carpet.
Gave up on potty training for immediate future.
Had quite a few time-outs and a couple spanks, one unmerited.
Forgave his mother (I think; not sure he understands the concept, but that’s okay)
Watched a bit of a documentary on dinosaurs.

All in all a mostly typical Saturday except that we didn’t go to the hardware store and Jan was a bit naughtier than usual.  But as I said, we all have our moments.   Tomorrow I think I will make Christmas cheesecakes for people. These are a good thing to make because I don’t like cheesecake and that way I won’t be tempted to snack.  Good plan, eh?  Maybe we’ll get a Tree tomorrow.

It snowed but didn’t accumulate.  It’s supposed to snow every day for the foreseeable future.

I hope your Saturday was good too.
