Savannah wedding

So for those of you who don’t know, we went to a super fast visit to Savannah, Georgia this past weekend for a wedding of a friend.  Not only that, but due to regulation changes in the Catholic Church, weddings are no longer allowed to be performed outside (no consecrated altar) so they needed a last minute person to perform the ceremony etc.  Did you know it is really easy to fill out a form and become “ordained?”  It isn’t ordained exactly; I think it’s just legally recognised to perform weddings.  So David did it.  We drove 16 hours to get there and 16 hours back.  We were there for less than 48 hours, but managed to take a tonne of photos.  I’m sure this is no surprise to anyone.  Thus, this is a photo chronology of what we did and where we went.

This is what we left at out house:

The Sweet Williams are blooming like crazy.  They only bloom every other year, but when they do, it’s pretty glorious.

I will spare you any details of the driving and driving and driving.  Some friends lent us a portable dvd and that was a life-saver.

We arrived to Savannah and to see this:

This is just a small sampling of the nice things to look at in this city. Although I must say that the tribute to the Confederate dead I find a little…. strange.  I don’t think that’s quite the word I want, but I’m not sure what is.  The whole of the city that we saw was organised around a big park which is where all these photos come from.  The wedding took place right by that fountain.  We could walk everywhere and hardly used the car at all.

dsc_0026.JPG Jan was able to play on the playgrounds and in the splash pad so that was a good time.

Jan made a new little friend who actually lives in our town, but we’d just never met before.  Here are Noah and Jan.  You have to admire Noah’s boots.  He was so proud.

Then we eventually got to the actual wedding.  I had to have photo documentary evidence of David being the Rev.

And then, although we had to leave before the actual dancing started, Jan did a fair amount of dancing while the rest of us were eating.dsc_0113.JPGdsc_0114.JPG

We had to leave before dancing because the whole day was a bit much for J who went from being a wild man to banging his head into a table and being exhausted.  We were no fresh daisies either so we just made our way back to the place we were staying.  Up the next morning, packed up and left.

We passed so much standing water on the way home, so much flooding.  Indianapolis had so much water – I saw a city-works guy wading with water up to his thighs just on an ordinary street.  And it’s raining again tonight.

But that was our big adventure of the weekend.  Now we are back to work – summer school/camp and church.  Jan to the sitter.  Stay tuned for more action packed adventures.
