Actually in the new house!

Well, we’re not living in the new place yet, but we did take possession on late Monday afternoon.  We’ve been busy!  My parents stayed into town until Tuesday morning, so they helped us a lot on Monday night, as did our small group.  Tuesday was a much less productive day, because our car was acting up, smelling hot, and losing oil, so we took it in.  It needed a new oil pan gasket.  To replace it you have to lift the engine a bit and take almost everything off.  Yikes!  They worked on it from 8:15 AM until 1:45.  I did work at the new place yesterday, but not as much as I hoped.  Full uninterrupted day today though! 🙂

Here is what has been accomplished so far:

ALL carpet is out (living room, dining room, family room, 3 bedrooms, bathroom, halls, study)

ALL wallpaper is out (living room, dining room, 3 bathrooms, and 2 story foyer.  Still has paper in the back room, but it is on paneling which is coming out, so I’ll just paint it for now until the drywall goes in)

Just about ready for paint – tomorrow I hope to have every surface painted.  I’ve got all the walls ready for paint (washed and washed the wallpaper paste off).  People are already finding the smell much better in the house.  The smoke smell is almost gone. With a good coat of primer everywhere I’m confident it won’t return.

At that point we move in.  All the rooms will be blank slates.  We will work on each room one at a time.  The current plan is to get the walls/paint all finished in the living/dining room, and then install new hard-wood cherry floors.  Those rooms will then be totally finished, and they are the most public space in the house.  We won’t be too ashamed to have people over then.

Okay, back to work!  Pictures soon.
